In the late 1980's, a body was found nearby the Kho Ren Bridge, which was suspended above water. For whatever bizarre reason, the police decided to do an autopsy of the body, literally in the middle of Kho Ren Bridge. Why, just why they thought that was a good idea is beyond me. Because the police were to eager to do the autopsy right then and there, hundreds of people began to gather around them, on the Kho Ren Bridge. However, the Kho Ren Bridge was not supposed to hold the weight of so many people and collapsed. Between 40 and 200 people were killed when the bridge collapsed, and though many people could have been saved by bystanders, the bystanders did nothing. They watched as their family, friends, and loved ones drowned. They believed that the Vietnamese river gods were claiming their souls, and so they did nothing to save the drowning people. Although people may love you, they could stand by and not know what to do, resulting in them not doing anything to help you.
